Shneour Zalman

(1886-1959)
   Russian Hebrew author. He was born in Belorussia, and lived in Vilna, Berlin, Paris, the US and Israel. In his poetric cycle Luhot Genuzim he criticized the moral devel-opment of Judaism as found in biblical literature. His collections of stories Peoples of Shklov and Noah Pandre deal with Jewish life in the Pale of Settlement.
